Authentic Dua and Dhikr:
Allaahumma ‘innee as’aluka fi’lal-khayraat wa tarkal-munkaraat wa hubbal-masaakeen wa an taghfara lee wa tarhamanee wa ithaa aradta fitnata qawmin fatawaffanee ghayra maftoon, wa as’aluka hubbaka wa hubba man yuhibbuka wa hubba ‘amalin yuqarribunee ilaa hubbik
O Allaah, I ask You to grant me the performance of good deeds, abandonment of bad ones, and love of the poor; and (I ask You) that You forgive me and have mercy upon me; and if You intend to try a people, cause me to die without being tested; and I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love you, and the love of actions which draw me closer to Your love.
Ahmad 5/243, Al-Haakim 1/521 and At-Tirmidhi 5/369 (with similar wording); declared hasan by At-Tirmidhi who said, “I asked Muhammad bin Isma’il (Al-Bukhari) and he said, “This hadith is hasan sahih.” Additionally, at the end of the hadith, the Prophet صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم said, “Verily it is true so learn it and teach it.”“

‘We would count that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- would say in one sitting one hundred times:
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ
‘O my Lord forgive me and accept my repentance indeed You are the One who forgives and most merciful.’

The following is taken from Tafsir Ibn Kathir (dar-us-salam publications)
The Supplication of Al-Muttaqin
Allah describes the Muttaqin, His pious servants, whom He promised tremendous rewards,
(Those who say: “Our Lord! We have indeed believed”) in You, Your Book and Your Messenger.
(so forgive us our sins) because of our faith in You and in what You legislated for us. Therefore, forgive us our errors and shortcomings, with Your bounty and mercy,
(and save us from the punishment of the Fire.)

‘Allaahumma ighfirlee Dhanbee kullah, diqqahu wa jillahu, awwalahu wa aakhirahu, sirrahu wa alaaniyatahu
O Allaah forgive all my sins, the minute of them and the major of them, the first of them and the last of them, the ones committed secretly and openly.

From Urwah that Aaishah said, “When I saw that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was in a pleasant mood I said, ‘O Prophet of Allaah! Supplicate to Allaah for me.’
He said, ‘O Allaah! Forgive Aaishah her sins of the past and the future and [any sins] she has kept hidden and what she has made public.’
So Aaishah laughed until her head fell into the lap of the Prophet of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم due to her laughter.
So he said, ‘Does my supplication please you?’
So she replied, ‘And why shouldn’t your supplication please me?’
So he said, ‘By Allaah! It is my supplication [which I make] for my nation in every prayer.’”

Seeking Allaah’ forgiveness after the last tashahhud and before salam
Allaahum-maghfir lee maa qaddamatu, wa maa ‘akhkhartu, wa maa ‘asrartu, wa maa a’lantu, wa maa ‘asraftu, wa maa ‘Anta a’lamu bihi minnee. ‘Antal-Muqaddimu (The One Who brings forward) wa ‘Antal-Mu’akhkhiru (The One Who puts back) laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Anta.
[Muslim 1/534]“O Allah, forgive me for those sins which have come to pass as well as those which shall come to pass, and those I have committed in secret as well as those I have made public, and where I have exceeded all bounds as well as those things about which You are more knowledgeable. You are Al-Muqaddim and Al-Mu-akhkhir. None has the right to be worshipped except You.”
Note : al-Muqaddim (The One Who brings forward) , al-Mu’akhkhir (The One Who puts back) are the two names of Allaah
Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: We counted Messenger’s saying a hundred times during one single sitting:
Rabb-ighfir lee, wa tub `alayya, innaka Antat-Taawwabur-Raheem.
My Rubb! Forgive me and pardon me. Indeed, You are the Oft-Returning with compassion and Ever Merciful.”
[Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi]
Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “He who says:
‘Astaghfirullah al-lathee laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwal Hayyul Qayyoomu wa ‘atoobu ‘ilayhi.
‘I seek the forgiveness of Allah, Whom there is none worthy of worship except Him, the Living, the Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all, and I turn to Him in repentance.’
his sins will be forgiven even if he should have run away from the battlefield (while he was engaged in fighting for the Cause of Allah).”
[Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and Al-Hakim (on conditions of Al-Bukhari and Muslim for accepting Hadith)].
– Allaah’s Messenger (Sallalaahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
“By Allaah, I seek the forgiveness of Allaah, and repent to Him more than seventy times in a day.”[1]
“O poeple, repent to Allaah, for I verily repent to Him one hundred times a day.” [2]
“It is a heavy thing for my heart if I do not seek Allaah’s forgiveness a hundred times a day.”[3]
[1] (Al-Bukhaari, cf. Al-Asqalaani, Fathul-Baari 11/101.]
[2] (Muslim 4/2076)
[3] Muslim 4/2075. Ibn ‘Athir explains that the prophet (peace be upon him) was always vigilant in his remembrance and drawing near to Allaah, and if he forgot to do any of what he normally did from time to time, or it slipped his mind, he felt as if he had wronged himself and so he would begin to seek the forgiveness of Allaah. See Jaami’ul-‘Usool 4/386.

Nuh (peace be upon him) said :
(My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer,) Ad-Dahhak said, “This means, my Masjid.” However, there is no harm in understanding the Ayah according to its apparent meaning, which would be that he (Nuh) supplicated for every person who entered his house who was a believer. Then he said,(and all the believing men and women.) He supplicated for all of the believing men and women, and that includes those of them who were living and those of them who were dead. For this reason, it is recommended to supplicate like this, in following the example of Nuh, and that which has been reported in the narrations and well-known, legislated supplications.

Ubaadah ibn as-Saamit radiallaahu ’anhu related that the Prophet sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whosoever seeks forgiveness for the believing men and the believing women, Allaah will record for that person – equivalent to every believing man and believing woman – a good deed.”
Related by al-Haythamî in Majma’az-Zuwaa‘id (l/210) where he said: “The isnaad is jayyid.” [at-Tabarani, classed as Hasan by Al-Albani]

The Messenger of Allaah may peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him said :
Indeed the major supplication for forgiveness is to say :
Allaahumma anta rabbee, la ilaha illa anta, Khalaqtanee,
wa ana abduka, wa ana ala ahdika wa wadika
mastatatu, aouthu bika min sharri ma sanatu,
aboou laka binimatika alayya, wa aboou bitahmbee,
faghfirlee fainnahu la yaghfiru ath-thunooba illa anta
[ Sahih Bukhari Vol.8 Hadith no:318]
O Allaah You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship in truth except You, You created me and I am Your slave and I am abiding to Your covenant and promise as best as I can, I seek refuge in You from the evil that I have committed, I profess to you my sins and I acknowledge Your favour upon me, so forgive me verily no one forgives sins except you.
So if the worshipper says this when the morning arrives, truly believing init and he dies enters Paradise, and if he says this when the evening arrives truly believing in it enters Paradise.
