One Who missed the Friday Prayer should pray Zuhr: Fatwa Collection

Question:

If I do not pray the Friday prayer in congregation in the mosque, should I pray it in the house as two Rakahs, with the intention of the Friday prayer, or should I pray it as four Rakahs, with the intention of Zuhr?

Answer:

Whoever did not attend the Friday prayer with the Muslims due to some lawful reason, such as illness or the like, or some other reasons, should pray the Zuhr prayer. Likewise, a woman prays the Zuhr prayer and so does the traveller and those living in the desert, as is proved by the Sunnah, and it is the opinion of the majority of the scholars, and no consideration should be paid to those who deviate from them..

  Abandoning the Prayer is from the Most Dangerous of Sins (Imām Adh-Dhahabi)  Al-Imām Al-Hāfidh Abu Abdillāh Muhammad bin Ahmad Adh-Dhahabi (d. 748H, rahimahullāh) mentioned abandoning the Prayer (As-Salāt)  as the fourth major sin  in his tremendous work entitled,  “The Major Sins (Al-Kabā’ir).”  The following is an abridgement of the  Chapter: Abandoning the Prayer . Allah, the Most High, stated: فَخَلَفَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ أَضَاعُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّبَعُوا الشَّهَوَاتِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّا – 19:59 “But then, there came after them those who gave up the Prayers (Salāt) and they followed their lusts. To those who will come into His Presence as believers, Allah gives the promise of Paradise, wherein they will remain forever. As there is no doubt that this promise will be fulfilled, those who believe with certainty will never doubt its truth. Moreover, if they have surrendered their souls to Him as believers, they know that their sins will be forgiven and that they will be accepted into Paradise. The following verse makes this clear: Gardens of Eden which the All-Merciful has promised to His servants in the Unseen. His promise is always kept. Once a person has finished the Prayer, he should make the following supplications: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ  Astaghfirullāh, astaghfirullāh, astaghfirullāh “I ask Allah for forgiveness”  3 times. (Muslim no. 591) اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ Allāhumma antas-salām, wa minkas-salām, tabārakta yā dhal-jalāli wal-‘ikrām. “O Allah, You are As-Salām (Peace), and from you is As-Salām. The one who knows most of the Qur'aan should lead the prayer:: Answer: First of all, the hadeeth is found in Saheeh Muslim. The correct stance with regard to its meaning is to take it in its literal sense. And it is the memorization of the Book of Allaah and proficiency in reciting it, contrary to what some people believe it to mean, such as understanding it, even though there is no recitation and memorization. What directs us to this understanding is the hadeeth [in Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree] of the young companion 'Amr Ibn Salimah, who was the Imaam for his people in spite of him being the youngest amongst them. This was because he was the one who had memorized the most from the Book of Allaah amongst them.
