Question:

I have heard that drawing the thumb against the middle finger and extending the forefinger and moving it is harsher for the devil then being struck with iron ... to what extent is this narration correct?

Answer:

I do not know anything of this narration, but it is lawful for a person to clench the little finger and the ring finger and to make a circle with the thumb and the middle finger and to point with the middle finger while he is supplicating.

From Shaykh,  Allaama, Mufti  of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdul Azeez bin Abdullaah Bin Baz by Umm Yahya  The Noble Shaykh Bin Baz  -Rahimullaah-  was asked: ‘The reward for reciting the Book of Allaah is evident. Is there a reward for reading Hadeeth too?’ The Shaykh replied: ‘There is a great reward for reading the Noble Qur’an in terms of coming closer to Allaah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, as is reading and memorizing the Hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah  -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam . Once a person has finished the Prayer, he should make the following supplications: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ  Astaghfirullāh, astaghfirullāh, astaghfirullāh “I ask Allah for forgiveness”  3 times. (Muslim no. 591) اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ Allāhumma antas-salām, wa minkas-salām, tabārakta yā dhal-jalāli wal-‘ikrām. “O Allah, You are As-Salām (Peace), and from you is As-Salām. Suhih Muslim  Book 41, Number 6: Harith b Abi Rabi'a and 'Abdullah b. Safwan both went to Umm Salama, the Mother of the Faithful, and they asked her about the army which would be sunk in the earth, and this relates to the time when Ibn Zubair (was the governor of Mecca). She reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had said that a seeker of refuge would seek refuge in the Sacred House and an army would be sent to him (in order to kill him) and when it would enter a plain ground, it would be made to sink. What are the Sunnahs and etiquettes that we should act in accordance with on the day of Eid?_

Praise be to Allah. The Sunnahs that the Muslim should observe on the day of Eid are as follows:  1 – Doing ghusl before going out to the prayer.  It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in al-Muwatta’ and elsewhere that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning. Al-Muwatta’ 428.  Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.  The reason why it is mustahabb is the same reason as that for doing ghusl before Jumu’ah and other public gatherings.
