Chapter___ Raising Index Finger in Tashahhud

Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar  said: “When the Prophet (ﷺ) sat for Tashahhud, he placed his left hand on his left knee and placed his right hand on his right knee, and he formed a ring like, and he pointed with his index finger (to indicate the Oneness of Allah).” [Muslim] saw

Besides, ‘Abdullah Ibn az-Zubayr  narrated: “When the Prophet (ﷺ) sat for “Tashahhud”, he placed his rightsae hand on his right thigh and his left hand on his left thigh, and pointed with his forefinger, and placed his thumb on his (middle) finger, and covered his knee with the palm of his left hand.” [Muslim]

The second narration gives some explanation to the state mentioned in the first narration.

There is another narration from Waa’il Ibn Hujr  that: “He saw the Prophet (ﷺ) when he sat in prayer, that he spread out his left foot and placed his hands on his thighs and pointed with his index finger supplicating in this way.” [An-Nasaa’i and others]

  Imam Ibn Baaz: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful An extract from my letter I sent to His Excellency Shaykh  Abu Al-A`la Al-Mawdudy  concerning  the difference between `Ibadah and obedience On 2/4//1392 A.H.,  Abu Al-A`la Al-Mawdudy  sent me a letter no. 1526, dated 2 Safar, 1392 A.H. explaining his case and  Tufayl’s,  his successor in the leadership of Islamic Group. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “ This scattering of yours into the trails and valleys is from Satan. ” They never set up camp afterward unless they were close to each other, so much so that it was said a single blanket could be spread over them all.   Abandoning the Prayer is from the Most Dangerous of Sins (Imām Adh-Dhahabi)  Al-Imām Al-Hāfidh Abu Abdillāh Muhammad bin Ahmad Adh-Dhahabi (d. 748H, rahimahullāh) mentioned abandoning the Prayer (As-Salāt)  as the fourth major sin  in his tremendous work entitled,  “The Major Sins (Al-Kabā’ir).”  The following is an abridgement of the  Chapter: Abandoning the Prayer . The Hasan Hadeeth:  Definition: A report that fulfils the conditions of a Saheeh hadeeth except that one of its narrators or some of them are lesser than their counterparts in a Saheeh hadeeth in terms of precision (الضبط) yet that does not remove it from being used as an evidence in terms of its authenticity. And it is referred to as Hasan li-dhaatihi (الحسن لذاته). More explanation of the terms:  So it meets the conditions of Saheeh hadeeth in terms of: Its chain of narration (isnaad) leads back to the Prophet (salallaahu `alaihi wassallam). The chain of narration is connected all the way back to the Prophet (salallaahu`alaihi wassallam). The narrators are trustworthy. It is free from contradicting any narrations stronger than it. It is free from subtle or hidden defects. What remains therefore is the condition of  precision (ضبط)  – and this is the distinguishing feature of this category.
